Antonyms are Opposites!

November 4th, 2009  Tagged

Today we discovered that we knew a lot about antonyms or opposites.

First we filled our smartboard with pairs of antonyms and then got with our couch buddy to think of more.

Then we used our wordle bucket (a pail of notepads and colored pencils) and collaborated with our partner to come up with 3 pairs of antonyms.

Last we entered our text into wordle and chose the design we liked best.

We challenge our blog readers to add a comment and think of three pairs of antonyms to add to our learning. Please leave them in your comment!

Sadie’s mom made an antonym wordle for us! Let’s see if we can pair up those antonyms!

Writing Workshop

We are continuing to work on writing our memories in writing workshop. We have Fall Fun Day tomorrow, so no time to write or record! We will be back on Wednesday and try to record Volume II of our Memories VoiceThread.

I have prepared a directory on Text 2 Mind Maps, so you will know in which Volume your memory will be found.

RIF comes to our classroom!

October 20th, 2009  Tagged ,

We had a visit from Mrs. O, our favorite representative of the Radford Woman’s Club! She brought us a good story and a bag full of books… for free! Amazing! The program is call Reading is Fundamental or RIF for short. This is our first of 3 visits this year.

We got to pick out a book, then we had our names put in them. We can’t wait until the next RIF day. Thank you Mrs. O and the rest of the Radford Woman’s Club!

While exploring the RIF web site, I found some great resources for reading! Try out this one – an Edward Lear poem called Calico Pie!

Celebrating Bobcat Spirit Week

October 15th, 2009  Tagged ,

We wanted to celebrate Bobcat Spirit Week by taking photos, having students record video with our new Flip camera, and writing stories. We have finally put together our post and we are ready to share!

Since this is a first time for these students to write a blog post or use the flip camera, your comments and encouragement would be appreciated! Sadie filmed the pep rally and 7 student reporters wrote about their experiences.

Devin reports: Thank you, Mr. Graham for letting the Bobcats come and join us and the Junior Bobcats. Thank you Mrs. Saunders for calling them so they would maybe come to see us.

Abigail reports: We had the Bobcats come last week to our school. We are so happy. My class loves the Bobcats. We love it.

Rachel reports: We had Black and Gold day.

Alex reports: The Bobcat Week was fun. I like the bobcat.

Addison shares: The Bobcat Pep Rally was good. Bobcats are good players. Bobcats go!

Sadie reports: At my school, I had the whole football team come to my school and it was fun. Go Bobcats!

Emma D. reports: The pep rally was fun.

Our Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

October 12th, 2009  Tagged , ,

We had a great day at the pumpkin patch today! It was cold, but we were still able to conduct our science experiments, explore the corn maze, eat lunch, and pick the perfect pumpkin.

Back at school, we estimated and weighed our pumpkins, drew a picture of a jack-o-lantern, and got out our Digital Blue microscope. We were able to examine the parts of the pumpkin flower and vine. It was very interesting! We took snapshots and included them in our Smilebox creation.

Don’t forget to check out our pumpkin patch field trip stories. We scanned them and added them to our wikispace student pages.
