Fall Fun Day was a success! We learned the Virginia Reel, heard a bluegrass band, learned from a bee keeper, heard Appalachian story telling and more. We have pictures and video coming soon. Stay tuned!

Everyone loves math! Well, at least in first grade. We know it is important to learn math and we like to find ways to make it fun. Here is a math game from our friends at Fun 4 the Brain that will help us with some beginning adding skills.

Math Centers – a fun way to learn!

We used our math games to practice addition, subtraction, telling time, counting money, and problem solving! Look at our slide show to see how we did all of this in one day.

Austin says it was fun to make those block puzzles and they were really cool! My favorite one was the sun.

Jordan says it was awesome sitting under Mrs. Wojtera’s desk. We played two games.

Mackenzie says it was fun to match up all the digital and regular clocks together. We pretended that all the power went down and all the clocks we matched up made the power go back up.

Auna says we took turns while we were reading the plus signs. We liked it and it was fun.

Abby says Zan and I worked on pentominoes and we made little animals.

Charli says Haley and I had a book and it had a binder. We matched up some blocks to the picture.

Measuring Monday

We are starting our study about non-standard measurement. You can play a game about measuring with paper clips with this link. We measured things with lengths of yarn today and then described our findings by using the words longer or shorter.

Telling Time

We are working on telling time to the hour and half hour. Here are some games that go with our math program for practicing those time skills at home.

Monday Math

During our spring break, I want you to practice your math facts.  Click on the That’s a Fact! game link and set up your game like we did in class.

Choose addition and subtraction mixed, choose sums and differences through 10, and set it for 3 minutes.  I want you to write a comment to me that tells me how you are doing.  You can tell me how many you got correct and how many you finished.

Comparing Money

We have been working on counting coins up to $1.00.  This week we have spent time on counting collections of coins and comparing their amounts.  Here is a game that goes with our lessons to help practice this skill.

We also made coin rubbings and had fun with coin stampers.

Serving up pizza today!
